The American Renaissance was one of the most vital literary periods in American literature, spanning the period between ca. 1830-1865.
We will read authors such as Edgar Allan Poe, Lydia Maria Child, Nathaniel Hawthorne, Herman Melville, Frederick Douglass, Harriet Jacobs, Harriet Beecher Stowe, Louisa May Alcott, the Transcendentalists (among them Margaret Fuller, Thoreau, Emerson), and more.
