Description:
This course involves the study of American independent cinema since 2000. We will relate this mode of filmmaking to the aesthetic and ideological conventions of Hollywood cinema. and to theories of authorship, genre and realism. The course will also focus on the representation of race, gender, sexuality and class in the films of this period. The list of filmmakers addressed in the course includes Jim Jarmusch, Sean Baker, Chloe Zhao, Barry Jenkins, Spike Lee, Kelly Reichardt and Ramin Bahrani. This is a HawkSYNC Online course.
