In this course, we will address narratives of immigration to the U.S. in recent fiction, non-fiction writing, and film. We will consider how these texts imagine the American dream and classic “immigrant narrative” as well as how they challenge these mainstream ideas by focusing on issues such as empire and globalization. Texts we consider may represent Latinx/a/o, Black, Arab, and Asian American communities. Meets World Cultures Requirement.
