Course format: Fully ONLINE. We will meet TUES and THURS SYNCHRONOUSLY FROM 1-3:30PM and you will also have ASYNCHRONOUS activities during the rest of the week that be equivalent to 5 additional hours of class each week.
In this course, we will address narratives of immigration to the U.S. in recent fiction, non-fiction writing, and film. We will consider how these texts imagine the American dream and classic “immigrant narrative” as well as how they challenge these mainstream ideas by focusing on issues such as empire and globalization. Texts we consider may represent Latina/o, Caribbean, Arab, and Asian American communities.
