Title: THE SHORT STORY
Section: 04
Semester: Fall - 2022
Credits: 3
Description:
This course focuses on the short story, a versatile form that every region and era makes its own. We’ll look at narrative technique in a gamut of writers from Edgar Allan Poe and Flannery O’Connor to George Saunders and ZZ Packer. We’ll examine not just what a story means but how it accomplishes that, a sort of creative writing approach to develop both rhetorical and critical skills. Students will also complete two brief essays, a midterm, and a final exam. This course meets the women and gender studies (3C) requirement for the English major, as well as the Gen Ed (C2) literature requirement.
