Description:
The Hollywood blacklist, the erosion of the Motion Picture Production Code, the flowering of experimental cinema, the film renaissance of the New Hollywood, the rise of the blockbuster and the emergence of independent boutique cinema—all of these events and movements characterize American film since 1945. We will discuss genre revision and the liberalizing of codes regulating the depiction of violence and sexuality in American films. Films likely to be screened include: Crossfire, Written on the Wind, Midnight Cowboy, McCabe and Mrs. Miller, Apocalypse Now, Jaws and Milk among others.
