Course details
Name: ENGL - 117
Title: WORLD LITERATURE: VOICES OF TRADITION AND CHALLENGE
Section: 01
Semester: Spring - 2023
Credits: 3
Description:
This course exposes students to voices in literature all over the globe, from many eras and in many genres. The thread holding all these works together is the theme of tradition and challenge: Who decides when it’s time to change the old order? How does the new take over, what kind of resistance does it meet, and with what impact on people and their societies? We’ll be reading poetry, fiction, and drama. Students will also complete two brief essays, a midterm, and a final exam. This course meets the women and gender studies (3C) requirement for the English major, as well as the Gen Ed (C2) literature requirement.
