Course details
Name: ENGL - 354
Title: SHAKESPEARE: TRAGEDIES AND ROMANCES
Section: 02
Semester: Spring - 2023
Credits: 3
Description:
We study several of Shakespeare’s major tragedies and romances as reflections of the concerns, anxieties, values, and ideologies of Shakespeare's England. We focus on social problems such as constructions of gender, class, "hero" and scapegoat, and challenge some old outdated concepts such as the "tragic flaw." Two papers (5 and 10 pages, respectively, the longer one involving guided research), a midterm and a final exam. Class discussion is expected and encouraged.
