Description:
This introductory survey course reads the literature by Black women from early slave narratives to the present. The works are analyzed from sociohistorical and cultural perspectives, and significant attention is given to the unique strategies and structures distinguishing an African American female aesthetic and critical tradition. Authors to be studied include Fauset, Harper, Hopkins, Hurston, Jacobs, Larsen, Morrison, Shange, Truth, and Walker, among others. Meets World Cultures Requirement.
