Title: SPECIAL TOPICS IN CREATIVE WRITING: FOUNDATIONS IN ROMANCE WRITING

Section: 04

Semester: Fall - 2023

Credits: 3

Description:
In Foundations in Romance Writing, we will begin our journey as novice romance writers. Here, we will demonstrate knowledge of romance as a genre by exploring structure and tropes through source analysis, lecture, and discussion. We will examine, analyze, and discuss reader expectations of the romance genre and sub-genres within.

By utilizing GMC (goal, motivation, and conflict), we will apply knowledge of the genre to create fully developed protagonists. With sensitivity, we will develop an awareness and understanding for the importance of diversity in romance, and apply that knowledge to respectfully create characters from different backgrounds. Through peer-workshopping, we will learn how to craft romance manuscripts and editorial critique letters.

This is a writing intensive course where students will be required to submit three workshop pieces, three critique letters, and a completed novella to comprise their final portfolio.

THIS IS A SYNCHRONOUS ONLINE COURSE.
