Description:
This course provides an introduction to the lifecycle of a book and the ecosystem of book publishing, specifically in the digital age. Students will learn the fundamentals of author representation, editorial acquisitions, design and production, marketing and publicity, sales and distribution, subrights, bookselling, and literary networking, as well as the historical context required to understand this current moment in the publishing industry. Students will be required to think like agents, publishers, and booksellers, seeking creative strategies to stay ahead of the curve as the online media space and other forms of content compete for consumers’ time and attention.
