Description:
This course focuses on the short story, a versatile and exciting genre. We’ll look at narrative technique in texts ranging from the classics (Poe, Chopin, Perkins Gilman) to more contemporary works by writers such as: N.K. Jemisin, Octavia Butler, Ursula LeGuin, Flannery O’Connor, ZZ Packer, and Shaun Tan among others. Students will complete several brief drafted essays, and take both a midterm and a final. This elective course satisfies the C2 Literature Gen Ed requirement.
