Course details

Name: ENGL - 510

Title: SHAKESPEARE STUDIES: HISTORIES

Section: 01

Semester: Fall - 2024

Credits: 3

Description:
The English history play was probably the most popular dramatic genre during the first half of Shakespeare's career, and Shakespeare's English history plays represent some of the most ambitious, conceptually and theatrically complex dramatic writing he ever did. In this course we will discuss the characteristics and pleasures of English history plays--what they offered audiences of their own time and what they might still offer us today. We will read 5 or 6 of Shakespeare's histories and probably 2 history plays written by his contemporaries.
