Name: ENWR - 212

Title: INTRODUCTION TO POETRY WRITING

Section: 01

Semester: Fall - 2024

Credits: 3

Description:
Poetry is the search for new language.

When we write poems, we are trying to make our words electric, energize our diction, indulge in mystery.

We will read and study published poems to inspire our own work. We will think about diction, metaphor, line and voice. We will study prosody (the music of poetry!). Students can expect lots of feedback on drafts from peers and from your professor.

In my class, we find inspiration in animal totems and Pokémon cards, in the rhymes of Emily Dickinson and Lauryn Hill, in the names of birds and the dance of syllables. Students write iambic tetrameter lines, hip-hop multis, and chants.

Looking forward to meeting you!
