Description:
This course focuses on literature written in Central, South America, and the Caribbean by women in the 21st century. After taking this course, students should appreciate the diversity inherent in literature through a global lens. They will learn literary techniques, from plotting, characterization, dialogue and tone, symbol, theme and so forth. From discussion, assigned reading and writing, and exams designed to test both retention and critical thinking, they should become better writers and readers. Students will also become acquainted with how literature is a tool that renders the reader able to ask questions big and small about citizenship, identity, and history.
