Let’s crack the system and learn to read and write like an English pro! This class focus on Native American Studies and introduces students to key conventions of reading, writing, and creative concept-making crucial to flourishing as an English undergraduate. We’ll look at short stories by Louis Erdrich and Sherman Alexie, yet the central text for class discussions will be David Grann’s "Killers of the Flower Moon" alongside Martin Scorsese’s recent movie adaptation of the book. If you are curious about Native American literature, movies, and music, you will come away from this course with a solid understanding of how story-telling works across various media and with a sophisticated and precise vocabulary to address what you discover in close-readings.
