Course details

Name: ENGL - 260

Title: ART OF POETRY

Section: 04

Semester: Fall - 2024

Credits: 3

Description:
"I too dislike it"--even the great poet Marianne Moore admitted to mixed feelings about her chosen artistic medium. If you feel uncertain or reticent about reading poetry, this course will help you overcome that and develop an appreciation for poetry in both technical and aesthetic ways. If you already love poetry, all the better. Or perhaps you're just curious?

Our introductory discussion of poetry from different era, nations, cultures, and genres will proceed at a relaxed pace, aiming to familiarize students with a basic vocabulary for discussion poems, and a variety of perspectives from which poetry might become personally meaningful.
